Position: SPD Tech 1 – Evening $$ SN$$
Location: Urbana, Illinois
Shift: Evenings – Monday to Friday, 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
Duration: 13 weeks

Job Duties
• Decontaminate, disassemble, clean, reassemble, package, and sterilize surgical instrumentation and reusable equipment.
• Reassemble and package instrument sets accurately according to department policies and manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFU).
• Perform manual and mechanical cleaning of reusable instruments and equipment.
• Inspect instruments for cleanliness, defects, and proper functionality.
• Use electronic inspection equipment to identify defects in electrosurgical instruments and cables.
• Sterilize instrument sets according to departmental procedures, AAMI standards, infection control guidelines, and manufacturer IFUs.
• Prepare and deliver disposable and reusable equipment and supplies for Operating Room cases, clinics, and nursing units.
• Pick supplies for same-day and next-day surgical cases.
• Restock specialty carts and Omnicells as needed.
• Document completed work and verify sterilization and processing parameters in the SPD information system.
• Respond promptly to STAT and ASAP requests from Operating Room and clinical customers.
• Answer telephone calls from internal and external customers and assist with equipment and supply requests.
• Maintain familiarity with OR and clinic workflows, instrumentation, and specialty surgical requirements.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Current CRCST or CSPDT certification required.
• Minimum 5 years of SPD experience; 8+ years preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of travel experience; 3–4 years preferred.
• Demonstrated experience with instrument trays, decontamination, and sterilization.
• Level 1 trauma experience and/or 50+ case days required.
• Ability to meet department productivity expectations of approximately 24–32 trays per 8-hour shift.
• Decontamination experience, including approximately 2 manifolds per hour.
• Experience with Orthopedics, Robotics, Laparoscopic, Neurosurgery, ENT, Cardiovascular (CV), General Surgery, Trauma, Plastics, Urology, and Gynecology instrumentation.
• Familiarity with Operating Room and clinic workflows and surgical instrumentation.
• Basic computer skills and understanding of basic medical terminology.
• Ability to perform detailed, repetitive work accurately for extended periods.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and respond to STAT/ASAP customer needs.
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills and ability to work independently with minimal error.
• Experience with Borescope, OneSource, and SPM preferred.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
